I got one of those Saker portable stick welders (and safety equipment) for the holidays. I've never done any welding before, but I managed to stick some bits of angle iron together to make a door stop for my workshop, and now I'd like to learn to do it properly. I've also seen some recommendations for beginners to start with inexpensive MIG or flux-core welders from Harbor Freight, so I'd like to hear about pros and cons of different wire-welding gear. Mostly I'd be tacking together jigs and brackets and that sort of thing.
